RIP Tony Williams

Postby Ranking Glasses » Wed May 02, 2018 6:34 am

I'm just hearing the sad news that legendary reggae radio DJ Tony Williams has died. I first came across him in the 70's with his BBC Radio London show on a Sunday which he shared for a time with David Rodigan. They had epic clashes which we loved to listen to. No one has done more to promote reggae in the UK and to fight for the recognition it deserves.

Well before my time but can still appreciate the contribution he made to the reggae industry in the UK. Nice tribute there RG. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.

My memory isn't what it used to be but I'm sure some LP's were released by Williams & Rodigan's Rockers FM show.

They where under the guise of that,
however it had anything to do with Williams & Rodigan apart form using there names,
it was soley used as a marketing ploy.

Bummer to hear this news. I met Tony in the Gambia during trip for the first Ariwa festival there. He was very pleasant and we kept in touch since then, exchanging music and conversation. He obviously loved music and apparently was doing what he loved right up until the last months of his life. RIP Tony
