Postby guillaumebougard » Sun Jul 16, 2017 8:35 pm

Samory I has just released an album called "Black Gold" produced by Rory from Stonelove.

HEAVY! Much better than Kronix, but much less commercial

It's a magnificent album and puts most of the other current reggae I've heard in the shade. If only more music like this was being made in Jamaica nowadays!

Really looking forward to the Junior Natural release. The man has been making heavy vibrations on the Swedish reggae scene since a likkle youth. Will it be released on vinyl?

Solid album all the way through, no doubt ! Not that many dance tunes but great to listen to, deep sounds. Once again, Rory is at the forefront of the finest modern roots.
Anyway, from his earliest tunes, it was obvious that Samory would be an artist to be reckoned with. Instantly recognisable!
One of the finest tune by SI wasn't recorded for Rory, though : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5g4lFRyLps
One again, it shows how underated Frenchie has become in these recent years. All of his roots riddims have been top notch since he gave up that "nu roots" formula in favour of a punchier approach some years ago.

Really enjoying this, but what's up with the vinyl release ? Can't find it anywhere. Same thing with the Xana Romeo album, I think there was going to be a vinyl release but haven't seen it anywhere. I would prefer to buy the vinyl, but if it's not available I tend to listen the tracks on youtube etc. and that kind of takes the excitement away of buying the vinyl if it's ever released. Vinyl should always be released in the same time as digital in my opinion.

just checked out that iTunes link, and a couple questions: where is this available in a physical manifestation, ideally on vinyl? And since you can only hear samples on iTunes, I thought I would ask, whats up with the 9 plus minute version of Rasta Nuh Gangster? Long vocal followed by long version combined into one track? I also note one other long track at seven plus, and many of the rest are in the four to five range, do they contain dub sections?

set sounds great, can't wait to pick one up, ernie of course does not list it.

one love

Rasta no Gangsta 9 minute version is vocal + version with a section of trombone solo
superb, absolutely superb. Majestic horns, great heavy riddim section, tuff
Because I'm black is a long song with long intrumental bridges
A lot of songs just take their time, and have instrumental parts. It's very musical and the horns are almost Aswad-esque in some songs.
Brilliant production by Rory
Follow him on FB for more news and dates (for CD and vinyl)
